Fairport’s computer network gets 21st century brains…

ISC NOC room construction
The performance of technology utilized by students is directly correlated to the design of the computer network, and the heart/brains of this network is called a NOC (Network Operations Center) or data center. It is located in the ISC building behind Minerva Deland. The excruciatingly slow Internet speeds, disappearing files, intermittent network down-times that have plagued the student learning experiences involving technology are being addressed. This week construction workers began tearing out old walls and a 30+ year HVAC system. The new NOC was designed by IBM and built around an industry recognized standard so that it can change and evolve as technologies change without requiring the Herculean effort and cost that were characteristic of the previous NOC. This is where the new Cisco core switch and wireless controllers will be installed…..our new network brains! August 18 is the present time by which it is slated to be completed.
